Genius Hour Blog Post Week 6

This week was sort of special, mainly due to the fact that I think I experienced a type of Deja vu. Having attended a professional development conference this week that was scheduled from around 12:30 until 4:00, there was a lot material that was covered. Among that avalanche of information was a segment that really stood out to me. It stood out to me because it tied in so well with what I have been learning in tech class; hence the Deja vu. It was reiterated to us that technology in the classroom is a wonderful tool that can enhance the learning ability of students substantially, as well as, make their learning experience a little more fun. With that in mind, a great sort of wake up call came along, and it came long in the form of a thorn in a rose bush. I, being in my new found bubble of enthusiasm for technology, was beginning to slowly float away, and thus desperately need this thorn to help burst my bubble and bring me back to earth, so to speak. We were reminded, echoing the wise words of Peter Parker's uncle Ben when he said, 'with great power, comes great responsibility'. There are many great dangers that come along with certain types of technology, especially when dealing with types of social media. However, even though I have become a lot more cautious of what types of technology I intended to use in my own classroom, it makes me beg the question: with the proper education and guidance, can any technology whatsoever, be made safe, or will there always be significant risks associated with it?
