POLICY
Fundamental Principles

I want to learn to plan lessons that are carefully designed to meet curriculum expectations and learning goals, while at the same time tying in the individual interests and needs of the students.
Among other things I plan on making surveys to hand out to students, which ask them what their hobbies are and what sort of things interest them, so as to get a better understanding of each individual student.

POLICY
Learning Skills & Work Habits

I want to learn to help students independently monitor and revise their own work, all while taking advantage of class time effectively.
I intend to have students engage and peer-revision activities, as well, as remind them that if they do not take advantage of time to work in class then I will give them a lesson instead.

POLICY
Performance Standards: The Achievement Chart
I want to learn to make sure that I stay on task by using a framework that includes within all curriculum expectations for all subjects, across all grades.
I plan on converting this framework into child-friendly language so that all my students also are made aware of what we plan to do as a class.

POLICY
Assessment FOR Learning & AS Learning
I want to learn to improve the quality of student learning with assessment ‘for’ and ‘as’ learning.
I plan on assessing students as frequently as possible, not to grade them necessarily, rather, for the sake of feedback and improving the quality of the lessons and learning for the next day/week.

POLICY
Evaluation

I want to learn how to make assessments ‘of’ learning at strategic times throughout the grade/course
I plan on making assessments to students’ work at times when I feel that they have mastered the concepts, and delaying assessment ‘of’ learning at times when they are still struggling/ learning.

POLICY
Reporting Student Achievement
I want to learn how to tell if the work of a student falls under Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, or Needs improvement because the words are sort of vague.
I intend to talk to my principal and fellow teachers about how to make the evaluation a little less subjective and more objective, that way I can be more equitable in my reporting.

POLICY
Students With Special Education Needs
In the growing success document it states that some students on IEPs might need an alternative program not derived from the curriculum expectations for that subject or grade, so I want to learn how to make such a program for those students.
I plan on asking colleagues with more experience than me whether I can look at examples of IEPs they have prepared so that I can get an idea of what sort of things I should do.

POLICY
English Language Learners

I want to learn how to deal with students who have English as their first language, however, it has incorporated into it a lot of slang, and therefore, they have trouble with formal English grammar.
I intend to talk to the student, as well as their parents, and the principal to discuss what everyone things would be the best option for developing the student’s skills
